There are many veteran disability benefits available for those who’ve served in the armed forces and need assistance as a result. One such grant is the Veterans’ Mobility Fund, which aims to provide disabled former military personnel with access to the solutions they require.
This mobility assistance for veterans is notable in that it covers equipment not usually available on the NHS. It was originally established in 2016 and distributed more than 270 grants to disabled veterans in its initial phase, transforming lives and contributing to increased independence.
It was relaunched in 2024 to provide more ex-service personnel with an improved quality of life through funding from the Office of Veteran Affairs UK and the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust.

What are the eligibility criteria for the Veterans’ Mobility Fund?
Eligibility for the Veterans’ Mobility Fund is based on two main criteria. The first is that the individual applying for the veteran mobility grant must have sustained a physical disability as a result of illness or injury during their service in the military. Secondly, they should be receiving a War Pension or an award from the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme.
What is the application process for the Veterans’ Mobility Fund?
Accessing veteran financial support through the Veterans’ Mobility Fund is facilitated by the Help For Heroes charity. It can be done by filling out a form online or by calling 0300 303 9888 to work out an alternative option.
You’ll need to provide evidence of your service record, war pension and medical treatment relating to the injury or illness, so make sure you have the following documents ready:
Equipment provided by the Veterans’ Mobility Fund includes specialist wheelchairs, mobility scooters and orthotics.

Other available support and resources for veterans
